Had a tough loss last night on the loosers side...
I lost my first match 9-4 yesterday morning against Eric Marendaz from Switzerland. Played pretty good though, but wasn't enough to keep up with my opponent. Was a nice match anyway and I felt pretty comfortable with my new cue!
On the loosers side, I had to play against Moreno Kraljevic from Italy. When the score was 3-1 for him we had a little situation... He had the 6-ball and the 9-ball laying very close to eachother and an angle from the white, which made it difficult to see if there was a risk of making a foul when hitting the 6-ball. The rule is, that you have to get a referee before the shot is made. Afterwards, you can't do anything about it - even if it was a foul! Therefore, I wanted to check the situation and went to the table to see it for myself. He got quite upset about it and didn't understand what I was doing - even though he wasn't even shotting yet, but just looking at the balls. I explained it to him and since I evaluated that there was no risk of making a foul, I went back to my chair.
He took his time for the shot but still missed it and I cleared the table. Afterwards he told me not to do that again! I did expect that he would be fustrated because of his miss, but it was wrong of him to take it out of me. I tried to explain it to him once again, but he would not let me finish and just told me not to do it again..?!?! Anyway, I took my time-out and decided to let the tournament director David Morris know. So he went back with me to explain it once again.
Later on in the match, the same situation occured again, but this time with me shooting. So I tried once more to make him understand that you have to "interrupt" your opponent, in case you think there's a risk of a foul. Didn't help this time either ha ha.
Anyway, we went 4-4 and then 8-6 for me when he missed a ball. He left me a long shot with the cueball close to the rail and hardly no angle, which I missed. Then 8-7 and he broke and ran for 8-8. My break: I had a shot on the one-ball and a 3-9 combo waiting in the other end of the table. Long distance to the one-ball though and had to play with quite a lot of right english to get position and also to avoid getting behind another ball. Worked out but didn't get far enough. Also, the 3 was laying a hair under the 9, so now the combination was more difficult. I still went for it though, but missed. He ran out for the match.
Was a very tough loss I felt. Really would have enjoyed the win so much, cause I felt I was playing good and relaxed. Also the new cue felt good, so was ready for it but didn't go all the way...
Gotta safe it for next time then!
